Dr. Henrique Jerônimo Bezerra Marcos was born in Paraíba, Brazil. He holds two PhDs: one in Philosophy of Law from Maastricht University and another in International Law from São Paulo University. As a University Lecturer (Academisch Docent) at the Faculty of Law, Maastricht University, his research utilizes philosophy to address conceptual and practical issues in international law, with a current focus on international decision-making in the climate crisis. Henrique is also a researcher at the Centre for Studies on the Law of the Sea at the University of São Paulo (CEDMAR-USP)
Dr. Rohan Nanda is an Assistant Professor with a joint position at the Institute of Data Science and the Law & Tech Lab of Maastricht University. His research aims to develop and evaluate novel natural language processing technologies to tackle challenges in HR Analytics and Computational Law. He earned a Joint International Ph.D. in Law, Science and Technology, and a Ph.D. in Informatics from the University of Luxembourg and the University of Bologna.
Julia is a visiting researcher at The Nippon Foundation Ocean Voices Programme at the University of Edinburgh, UK. She is also a PhD candidate in Law at NOVA School of Law (NSL), Portugal, where her doctoral research focuses on unlocking intellectual property restrictions to transfer knowledge and technology, particularly ensuring access to and utilisation of marine green technology by least developed countries. She holds a master’s degree in Law and Economics of the Sea (NSL) and a postgraduate degree in International Law from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil. Julia has served as an advisor to the Brazilian delegation during the negotiations of the BBNJ Agreement (2019–2023) and as Brazil’s advisor on the BBNJ Agreement during Brazil’s presidency of the G20 (2024). Her main goal is to give voice to the Global South—more than learning from academics and policymakers, Julia aims to be a turning point in shaping the protection of marine biodiversity and building strong bridges between all stakeholders. She is also part of the NOVA Knowledge Centre on Intellectual Property and Sustainability at NSL.
Dr. Cristiana Teixeira Santos is an Assistant Professor in Law and Technology at Utrecht University. She holds a joint international Doctoral Degree in Law, Science and Technology from the University of Bologna and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Luxembourg. Her research focuses on privacy and data protection, artificial intelligence and law, and information technology law. She is also an expert for the Data Protection Unit at the Council of Europe and collaborates closely with computer scientists on online privacy.
